Continuing with our Home 100 tour – we’re rounding out the first floor with some of my favorite shots of our dining room! I feel like we’re seeing fewer formal dining rooms these days, with more open floorplans being favored, but I love having a more formal space. When we remodeled our kitchen, we had the fleeting thought of knocking down the wall in between to open it up (pictured above) but decided against it. I like the separation of the space, and keeping any cooking mess contained while we eat – plus I think we could have lost some of the Lakewood charm of the house. We eat most of our meals here and love to host friends around our big table for dinners, games, and snacks!
Speaking of charm, I’m obsessed with the built-ins in this room, and all the storage they provide! We keep all of our barware and glasses in the cabinets, and platters and entertaining essentials in the drawers below. I’ve been thinking about getting a vintage buffet cabinet for underneath the window, but honestly think it would be kind of pointless – we really do have enough storage!
This room is full of DIY furniture – both the dining room table and the kegerator were built by Jim and his Dad, and our bar cart was a vintage Craigslist find. I actually think it was our first DIY project for the house, that we did back when we first moved in! We bought it for $15, painted it, replaced the wheels, and polished the brass rails. I love how both shelves are mirrored and that it has a rack for glasses under the top shelf. Total score!
Another fun fact: I’ve painted this room three times. Oops. Every other room in the house is the same color it was when we first moved in, but for some reason I just never felt like I got this room right, until now. This is probably my FAVORITE color ever, it’s Sherwin Williams’ Inkwell – I wanted a navy that was super dark and toed the line between navy and black, and this was IT. I actually think this color isn’t in their swatch display; I remember asking the store associate to pull out their designer color book from the back (oh man aren’t I fun and low maintenance?) and knew this was the one. I remember we came home from our honeymoon and the next day, we were bored and decided to paint this room on a whim. We love it and are so happy we did! I also just saw that Sherwin Williams named Naval their Color of the Year for 2020, so I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot more of this look in the future!
After that recent coat of paint, we’ve been pretty much done with the room and loving it! We have plans to switch out the pendant light down the line, but nothing major. I love how much of a statement the room makes, especially since it’s a focal point once you enter the house. I’ve linked as much as I can below, but always happy to answer questions if you guys want to message me!
