The Summer I Turned Pretty has taken the world by storm this summer after the long-awaited season 3 premiere in July, which pulled in an impressive 25 million global viewers within the first week after airing.
If you’re anything like us, you’re absolutely addicted to the show and inspired by the fashion and home decor the creators are serving us on-screen.
As a coastal boutique, the aesthetic and vibes of Cousin’s Beach, as well as Belly’s effortless, coastal granddaughter style, are giving us life! We thought we would share a few tips on how to attain The Summer I Turned Pretty’s aesthetic in your home & wardrobe this summer.
Color as storytelling
Before we dive into the fashion, it’s essential to discuss how important color symbolism is in the TSITP series. While we don’t yet know for sure how the show will end, if you read the books, you have a good idea of what’s coming.
In the series’ promo photos and trailers, we see Belly wearing a lot of blue in scenes with Jeremiah and transitioning to more pops of red as Conrad is reintroduced into the mix. Given that the Taylor Swift song, Red, is shown as Conrad first appears on-screen in the trailer, we can see that the color red may be an important clue as to which brother Belly may end up with at the end of the series. It’s also just another fun fashion choice by the creators for us to draw inspiration from!
Dressing the part
Now that we’ve nerded out over colors and what they could mean for our favorite love triangle’s story, we can move on to the home and fashion inspiration! As the series has progressed, Isabel Conklin, aka Belly, has grown into a stylish, put-together young woman. For those of us who want to bring some of Belly’s on-screen style into our wardrobes, here are a few tips…
Color - Light blue, neutrals, and pops of color (ie, red!) are key to mimicking Belly’s style. After all, we were reminded that her favorite color is blue earlier this season.
Pattern - Florals, stripes, and gingham are all very timeless and effortless patterns that we see her wearing often.
Silhouettes - Classic, feminine silhouettes are essential to attaining a preppy, coastal wardrobe like Isabel Conklin's.
Fabric - Lace, crochet, denim, and chunky knits are all very Belly-coded fabrics.
Accessories - (besides her extremely depressing engagement ring…) Simple, minimal styles like small gold hoops and layered necklaces are what we see most on Belly throughout the series. We also see Belly wearing a few different leather Coach purses and Lands End-style coastal tote bags that are perfect for all of the coastal girlies out there. (Or perhaps, a silver infinity necklace, anyone??)
Shoes - Casual white sneakers, lace-up wedge espadrilles, and simple sandals are what our girl loves most.
Bringing summer into your space
It also must be mentioned that the Summer House decor is iconic! It’s a masterpiece of a beach home, and we are so inspired by the intentional design, coastal vibes, and color palette to pull inspiration from on the show. The design is classy and beautiful without being pretentious, despite the large size of the home. The landscaping is lovely with dreamy hydrangeas and fresh cut flowers that are also brought inside. To achieve some of these looks at home, try working in blue and white hues, a toile pattern, feminine wallpaper, and floral bedding. Then, to warm things up, add in touches of solid wood, coastal scented candles, and layers of soft, cozy fabrics to make it feel welcoming.
